What is the TomTom Connected Services API?

The TomTom Connected Services API leverages real-time data to alert drivers and autonomous vehicles of potential traffic, road, and weather hazards. By tapping into a vast GPS probe network of over 600 million connected devices, TomTom promptly notifies vehicles of detected dangers through its low-latency push service. Offering a wide array of hazard features and drawing from multiple data sources, TomTom Hazards Service prioritizes safe travel for both drivers and self-driving cars.

Getting started

Follow these steps to begin using the API:

  1. Register on the TomTom Developer Portal using a non-personal email address.
  2. After registration, inform your Account Manager or click the Request Access button if you don't have one yet, including your registered email.
  3. TomTom will set up the necessary API keys for the Connected Services API linked to your account and notify you by email upon completion.
  4. Manage your API keys in the API & SDK Keys section of the TomTom Developer Portal.
  5. Refer to the Platform Guide for connect instructions, and the Hazard documentation for data details to start coding.
