Most of us online don’t properly know when, where, or how our data is being collected by a website, and never read the “Privacy Policies” that are meant to spell out, in very difficult English, our own rights to our data. Developers who craft these sites are equally victimized, but have the power to change how data is collected and stored across the web. At the end of the day, engineers decide what information is really necessary to run applications the world over, and what feeds into the personal data ocean.
